Proper Attic & Roof Ventilation is Smart
PROPER ATTIC VENTILATION
The Importance of Ventilation
Proper ventilation helps keep the air circulating and healthy, whether your climate is cold, hot or somewhere in between. Most homes are built with a passive ventilation system, a series of ‘vents’ that are designed to allow air to flow under the roof, sometimes with one powerful fan to draw air up through the eaves and out through the top ridge.
With passive vents, air becomes stuck in these attic and roofline spaces where heat and moisture build up, putting a strain on a home’s heating and cooling systems. Cold weather areas run the risk of ice dams and frozen upper level pipes; hot weather areas hold in moisture and heat – a perfect environment for rust, mold and mildew. And seasonal changes with lots of temperature and humidity variations can wreak havoc on roofs, ruin insulation and leave stored items smelling musty and feeling damp.
Solar Blaster® fans make a dramatic difference.
Air circulation is ‘activated’ throughout these closed spaces with the installation of well placed, energy efficient fans that maximize the air flow efficiency. How does it work? Check out the diagram below:
The first illustration shows what happens on a typical hot, sunny, humid day when the temperatures reach about 90 degrees. Heat rises and without active venting, temperatures can reach up to a sweltering 140 degrees in an insulated attic and as high as 170 degrees in non-insulated structures like garages, sheds, barns and workshops. This trapped heat, along with humidity, dissipates slowly, making your space uncomfortable and adding to risks like mold, mildew, rot and rust. The SOLAR BLASTER® illustration shows how the sun powers fans that effectively pull heat and humidity up and out of the structure, reducing risks of heat and humidity damage while making your storage and work spaces safer and more comfortable. Actively vented roofs also improve the life expectancy of your roof. It makes sense. Heat and humidity build up in areas that have only passive venting. SOLAR BLASTER® fan and vent units are designed to actively remove heat and humidity using the sun’s energy to run the fans.
SOLAR BLASTER® + the sun = active ventilation for a safer, less humid, more comfortable space.
After professional installation of your SOLAR BLASTER® system, relax and enjoy improved air quality (and light!) throughout your home. Think of the possibilities. Safe storage of childhood treasures and records, lighting, a cooler she-shed, energy efficiency, craft areas. We can professionally install the system all at once, or as you need more fans and more daylight.
The effectiveness of SOLAR BLASTER® venting fans reduces heating and cooling costs by moving air uniformly and regularly through enclosed spaces, significantly boosting the way home venting systems should work! Cloudy or rainy days? Humid summer days with no wind? Snow storms howling through your area? SOLAR BLASTER® systems are built to last and store energy so there is always air flow – even when the air is still.
